AL turns ruthless after polls: Fakhrul

FE REPORT | Sunday, 18 February 2024

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the ruling Awami League (AL) of increasingly becoming more desperate and cruel after election on January 07.
"The AL is afraid of losing power after a dummy election on January 07. It's growing increasingly desperate to kill and injure opposition leaders and activists, including those of BNP."
Mr Fakhrul made the remarks in a statement sent by the party's assistant office secretary, Mohammad Munir Hossain, on Friday night.
He said the brutal killing of BNP leader Mohammad Musa by Rauzan upazila Awami League men was another blot on the history of the ruling AL's barbarism.
"We (BNP) don't have words to condemn this gruesome murder," continued the BNP secretary who came out of jail on Thursday.
"The tradition of the Awami League is to misgovern the country through resorting to terrorism and killings by ignoring people's power," he maintained.
"Falsehood is the main tool of their (AL) rule. They do feel joyous by killing people as they have become cruel by colouring their hands with people's blood."
"The ruling Awami League become an extreme level arrogant after holding a one-sided election with the backing of civil administration and law-enforcement agencies," said Mr Fakhrul.
He said there was no rule of law in the country and thus the government backed terrorists get impunity even after committing murder, bloodshed and violence.
