AL united under Hasina, say party leaders

The Awami League (AL) leaders said Friday there is no difference between Awami League and Sheikh Hasina and the party is united under her leadership.
"There is no reformist and anti-reformist in Awami League and here none is against Sheikh Hasina. Rather, all the leaders of the party are united under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina," AL Acting General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said, reports UNB.
Ashraf made the observations at a meeting marking the first anniversary of death of former mayor and City Awami League president Mohammad Hanif at party central office on Bangabandhu Avenue. Dhaka City AL Acting President MA Aziz presided over the meeting.
Presidium member Suranjit Sengupta termed the cases against Sheikh Hasina false and baseless and said the AL will continue legal battle to free her.
"We will face the false cases through legal process as Awami League is not a revolutionist political party," he added.
On holding trial of Sheikh Hasina at the Sangsad Bhaban complex instead of holding it at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, he questioned, "Under whose direction the court was shifted? Is it at the directives of Law Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein or Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin?"
Reacting to the law adviser's remark that the government would look into whether or not the constitutions of the political parties were democratic, Suranjit said it is not the government's look out, it is a matter of the Election Commission.
