AL upset about BJP win: Fakhrul

Monday, 19 May 2014

The ruling Awami League (AL) is upset about the results of the Indian polls, the BNP spokesperson has said, reports bdnews24.com.
"Many ministers are saying the Indian polls results have elated people of Bangladesh and BNP. Where did they find all this?" acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Sunday.
He said that the AL leaders were making various remarks as they became nervous after the results.
"We want to say it clearly that the people of Bangladesh are not overjoyed by the elections results of India," he said.
Fakhrul's comments came a day after AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam described those who were elated by BJP victory as 'fool'.
BNP congratulated prime minister-elect Narendra Modi hours after the results of India's Lok Sabha election came out on Friday.
Fakhrul said, "India is our neighbour. We want to keep a friendly relation with them. We hope the new Indian government will take initiative to resolve issues taking into account popular aspirations in Bangladesh."
He alleged the water sharing issue did not yield any result due to the Hasina government's 'submissive' attitude.
"They (the government) could not even protest  border killings, because this government is dependent on India."
The BNP leader alleged that India was impeding the livelihood of Bangladeshi people by building barrages on 54 common rivers.
Fakhrul blamed the government for abductions and murders.
