SYLHET, Apr 24: BNP vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said on Monday the ruling Awami League  (AL) would have to pay the price for their failure in returning the BNP leaders and activists, including Ilias Ali who disappeared or went missing.
"History would take revenge as the Awami League had killed or made 40,000 opposition leaders and activists disappeared during the rule of Sheikh Mujib," he said while addressing as the chief guest a rally in Sylhet city in the afternoon.
Sylhet district BNP organised the rally at Shahid Soleman Hall in the district town, demanding immediate return of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali and other party leaders snd activists.
Chaired by central member and district BNP president Abul Kaher Shamim, the rally was also addressed by central organising secretary Shakhawat Hossain Jibon, city BNP president Nasim Hossain and Osmaninagar upazila chairman Moinul Haque Chowdhury.
"We believe the government has kept him (Ilias Ali) in confinement," BNP leader Shamsuzzaman Dudu said, adding that they want 'peaceful' demo-cracy.
There would be no election without participation of BNP, he said, adding that they want a level playing field since people are with them.
