At least four people were injured as supporters of rival Awami League (AL) groups clashed for a second day Sunday outside party chief Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi house amid aspirants' frantic bid to get AL ticket for parliament elections, reports UNB.
Witnesses said police charged batons to disperse the unruly supporters of Maj Gen (retd) KM Shafiullah and Gazi Golam Dastagir as the latter clinched nomination for Narayanganj-1 constituency.
The minions of the two powerful AL leaders used brickbats and sticks during the troubles that broke out at about 11:45 pm. Iqbal and Kiron, two of the supporters of general Shafiullah, the former army chief in office since 1972 till August 1975 changeover, were among the injured.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina Sunday separately met delegations of the deprived candidates who failed to get the party tickets in the changed times.
The delegations of Mohammad Ali who sought nomination from Narsingdhi-1, Barrister Amirul Islam from Kushtia-3, Shamsul Alam Dudu from Joypurhat-1, Dr Hannan Firoz (Jhalkathi-1) and Barrister Zakir Ahmed from Brahmanbaria-5 met Hasina and requested her to reconsider the nominations in those constituencies.
