Alal among 6 put on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court placed Sunday six leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations, including Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal, on a three-day remand each in a case filed with under the Special Powers Act 1974, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order when Nayan Mia, a sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for them each. The five other accused who were put on remand are Saidur Rahman, a member of central unit Jubo Dal, Jahangir Hossain Hawladar, Alal's personal secretary, three Jubo Dal activists-Abul Kalam Azad, Kamrul Islam and Rubel Hawladar.
Besides, the court also sent 57 other accused, who were arrested along with Alal on Saturday, to jail rejecting their bail petitions while another accused, Mohammad Jahangir, to prison hospital due to his sickness.
Mohammadpur thana police arrested 64 leaders and activists of BNP and its fronts, including Alal, from Alal's Lalmatia residence on Saturday.
Police claimed that they gathered at the house to join a meeting arranged there to work out a plan to carry out subversive activities during Sunday's hartal.
