Alal arrested

Moazzam Hossain Alal, who leads the BNP’s youth front, was arrested on Saturday night for what the police said ‘plotting sabotage’ ahead of the 20-party alliance’s nationwide hartal (shutdown) on Monday. Mohammadpur Police Station’s OC Azizul Haq confirmed the arrest of the Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal president on early Sunday. Alal was picked up from his Lalmatia house in Dhaka after 11pm, his aide Jahangir Alam said. He was arrested on Oct 25 from the same house on similar charges. On Friday, senior BNP leader Goyeshwar Chandra Roy was arrested over a clash between the BNP and ruling Awami League in Bakshibazar, according to a news agency.
