Alarming rise in divorce rate
Wednesday, 5 November 2008
Divorce is a social malady. The frequency of divorce is rising in our society more than before.
It has been shown through various studies that its frequency is higher in the urban areas than in rural backwaters. In Chittagong, a few days back, a report carried by the national daily said that last year the number of divorce in the Chittagong city was as high as 400. This year in the last nine months it reached nearly 300.
We all know that for a stable society a stable family is a prerequisite. But somehow, divorce is growing alarmingly.
The reasons behind this phenomenon are many. Western lifestyle has influenced a section of the people. Poverty has compelled another section of people to join in. Some are losing character. If we uphold our moral values and stick to our old norms and values -- I think we can resist this.
