Alim sent to jail

Former BNP minister Abdul Alim, arrested on war crimes charges Sunday, has been sent to jail, reports bdnews24.com.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Monday heard the charges against him and his bail prayer but adjourned hearing until Mar 31.
The tribunal asked the authorities to keep Alim, an alleged Pakistani collaborator, at the Dhaka Central Jail and keep an eye on his health.
A special team of the Joypurhat police earlier reached the tribunal office on the old High Court building in Dhaka with Alim around 8:45 am, less than 12 hours of his arrest in Joypurhat.
The BNP leader was arrested from his Joypurhat residence Sunday on an arrest warrant issued by the tribunal.
The tribunal issued the warrant following a Mar 23 appeal from the investigation panel, which alleged that Alim was the chairman of Joypurhat Shanti (Peace) Committee and was involved in the crimes against humanity during the nation's War of Independence.
