All asked to make UNESCO goal of ensuring EFA by 2015

Friday, 7 November 2008

The speakers at a seminar urged the people from all walks of life to come forward to make the UNESCO goal of ensuring EFA by 2015, reports UNB.
They called upon the non-government organisations (NGOs) to carry out welfare-oriented activities instead of commercial.
The speakers made the appeal while speaking at a seminar on "Literacy Development in Bangladesh" organised by National Association of UNESCO Clubs in Bangladesh at NAUCB conference hall in the city's Gandaria area Thursday.
Chaired by secretary general of the organisation Mahbubuddin Chowdhury, the seminar was attended, among others, by Prof Masuda M Chowdhury of Dhaka University, journalist Gias Kamal Chowdhury and Prof ANM Saleh of Rajshahi University.
They expressed their deep concern over the low and unsatisfactory level of literacy in the country.
"Our education system is based on catering for the affluent people instead of the poor due to corruption and rise of expenditure in every sector”, they said.
