Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said her government has taken various pragmatic steps including distribution of 280 million CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamb) and replacing all conventional street lamps by Light Emitting Diode (LED) to save electricity, reports BSS.
Responding to a tabled question raised by treasury bench member M Abdul Latif, she said steps have also been taken to upgrade the building code incorporating power saving issue and stopping use of AC during peak hours (from 6 pm-11 pm) at government and private offices and residential buildings and keeping the temperature of AC above 25 degree Celsius in this regard.
Regarding distribution of CFL bulb, she said CFL bulbs would be distributed across the country under the government's Efficient Lighting Initiative for Bangladesh (ELIB) programmes.
At the first phase of the programme, she informed the house that 5.5 million CFL has been distributed in 27 districts across the country on June 19 and more lamps would be distributed in other areas in phases.
Sheikh Hasina said apart from this, steps have already been taken to stop production of electric heater being used in cooking foods and shutting down all markets, shopping malls and shops by 8.0 pm.
