All eyes on WC cricket

Saturday, 31 January 2015

The Bangladesh national cricket team has left the country to participate in the World Cup (WC) cricket. It will get three weeks to get acclimatised to the conditions there. The Tigers will play two warm-up matches with Pakistan and Ireland before the main tournament starts. They will play their first match against Afghanistan on February 18 and it is important they start their WC campaign on a positive note. Afghanistan is a very competent side and the Tigers should not underestimate them.
The Tigers left Bangladesh amidst much fanfare, drawing media attention and with high hopes. The euphoria over the WC shall soon captivate the world and the sport-loving people in particular. Apart from the 10 Test playing nations, four associate members, Afghanistan, UAE, Ireland and Scotland will participate in this WC.  The World Cup format is expanding with every tournament. The next WC will be held in England in 2019.  Sachin Tendulkar has been chosen as the WC ambassador of 2015. India are the defending champions and they will be determined to defend the title. We all look forward to another scintillating WC and hope that with each game the spirit of cricket will rise to a new height.
