All RMG units paid festival allowance

All garment factories paid the Eid-ul-Azha festival allowance to their workers by Tuesday, claimed Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
It also said 92.89 per cent or 1,947 factories - registered with BGMEA - paid half month wages for June.
BGMEA Vice President Md Shahidullah Azim, in a statement on Tuesday, claimed some 2,096 factories under BGMEA are now active. All these units paid festival allowance, while about 93 per cent paid half month wages.
On the other hand, some 310 textile and ready-made garment (RMG) factories across the country - associated with BGMEA, BKMEA (Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association) and BTMA (Bangladesh Textile Mills Association) - under the jurisdiction of Industrial Police (IP) did not pay festival allowance until Tuesday noon.
A total of 9,915 industrial units, including textile, garment and jute units - located in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Khulna, Sylhet and Cumilla, are under IP jurisdiction.
On June 06, State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian asked factory owners to pay their workers' wages for the first 15 days of June and festival allowance before the Eid holidays.
According to IP data, some 47.11 per cent or 1,500 units of the 3,074 factories - under BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA and BEPZA (Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority) - paid half month wages for June until Tuesday noon.
Some 212 of 1,624 garment factories, associated with BGMEA, and 53 of 699 BKMEA member units did not pay festival allowance.
Some 45 of 359 BTMA units and 12 of 392 BEPZA units did not pay festival allowance, according to IP data.
On the other hand, 24 of 90 jute mills under the IP jurisdiction also did not pay festival allowance, while some 46 paid half month wages, data showed.
Some 777 BGMEA members, 370 BKMEA members, 188 BTMA members, and 233 BEPZA units were yet to pay half month wages for June until Tuesday noon, according to IP.
Meantime, some 103 textile and garment factories - associated with BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA and BEPZA - were yet to pay wages for the month of May, according to IP.
