All set for 20-party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan
Tuesday, 19 August 2014
The BNP-led 20-party alliance is ready to go ahead with its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan this (Tuesday) afternoon. Preparations for the rally started on Monday evening after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) gave permission for it. The stage was completed by Tuesday morning and megaphones installed at all designated points. Police and para-military personnel have been deployed in and around the venue since morning. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the rally will kick-off at 2pm. ‘20-party alliance leaders, including BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will address the rally. The BNP’s Dhaka metropolitan unit Convener Mirza Abbas will preside over it,’ Rizvi said on Tuesday. Asked whether BNP chief Khaleda Zia would join the rally, Rizvi said they are yet to be informed by her office at Gulshan. On Oct 25 last year, Khaleda addressed a rally of the then 18-party alliance led by BNP at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city. The BNP chief, however, later joined a BNP-organised rally on Jan 20 at the same venue, according to bdnews24.com.
