All YoungOne units closed

South Korea-based company YoungOne Corporation has closed all its production units in Dhaka and Chittagong indefinitely following labour unrest, reports bdnews24.com.
Director, operations, Shikder Meshbahuddin Ahmed confirmed the news to the news agency around 9:30pm Saturday.
Employees and workers of the footwear factory at Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) demonstrated against what they said was discrimination in their wage structure.
Eye-witnesses said the agitating employees and workers of YoungOne Sports Shoe Ltd also attacked its top officials Saturday evening, leaving a number of them injured.
Police said executive director of the factory Mohammad Shaheen and a human resources division official were among the injured. They were admitted to a local hospital.
CEPZ police camp chief Nazmul Hasan told bdnews24.com that workers and officials of other factories of the group later joined the demonstration.
UNB adds: Garment workers staged Saturday violent protests in four export-oriented factories at Rupganj, BSIC industrial city at Fatullah and Adamjee EPZ at Siddirganj and four factories in Savar to press for salary under the new wage structure.
Police said angry workers of Robin Tex BD factory shut the main entrance of the factory in the morning and ransacked furniture, computers and machineries. They also damaged 7-8 passing vehicles and put barricade on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway from 9 am to 10-30am.
During the protests 10 people including female official Samsun Nahar (28) of the factory suffered injuries. Other injured were identified as workers Aklima (23), Delwar (27), Mahbur (21), Iqbal (28), Mofazzal (22) and Iman Ali (20).
Later on, officials of the factory held meeting with the agitated workers and the blockade was withdrawn following assurance from the owners.
Meanwhile, workers of Skarlet in Fatullah, Scent Tex and DNB Clothing in Adamjee EPZ in Siddhirganj also abstained from work and staged demonstration outside the factory.
In Savar, workers of Star Link Creation and BK garments in Jamgora, MK in Jirabo and Debunia in Gorat area of Savar abstained from works staged demonstrations outside the factory demanding wage under the new wages structure.
Additional police and RAB personnel have been deployed at all the factories.
