SIRAJGANJ, Dec 13: Widespread allegations of corruption and abuse of power were reported against the executive engineer, LGED, Pabna. The said engineer has amassed huge wealth by unfair means through his brother here.
According to sources, the executive engineer in question is reportedly engaged in the construction business here through his brother's firm -- Mita Construction. Last year, he completed a major road construction job for which he had used a tractor from Natore LGED and a roller from Satkhira LGED. Those equipments are yet to be returned to the concerned authorities for which the government is losing huge revenue. He did not even pay the fares of the tractor and the roller.
Sources say Mita Construction used to get work orders of many construction works at lower rates through syndication and sold those to other firms at higher rates and earned huge profit. While posted as executive engineer, Natore, he grabbed huge illegal wealth by manipulating at least 16 tenders. Local law enforcers and anti-graft bodies have been informed of such incidents.
When contacted, Golam Kibria, Executive Engineer, LGED, Pabna admitted of using an old roller at Natore for Mita Construction, but he rejected the report of awarding 16 work orders without tender while posted at Natore LGED as its Executive Engineer.
