An alleged mugger was killed after a shootout between the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and his accomplices on Staff Road in the capital's Banani area Wednesday night.
Identity of the 25-year-old deceased could not be known immediately.
Director of Legal and Media wing of the elite force Commander M Sohail told reporters at a press briefing that two RAB personnel in the guise of a couple caught a mugger of an organised gang while they were trying to loot their belongings leading to scuffle at about 10:40pm.
At one stage of the scuffles the criminals started firing on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back that led to a gunfight.
As the back up force of RAB came up in aiding their officials, the muggers left the spot leaving one of their associates with serious bullet wounds, the RAB official said.
