Allowing political space to the opposition

Tuesday, 11 November 2014

I was really surprised to know that the government did not allow the main opposition party, the BNP, to hold a meeting on November 08. This does not bode well for a democratic country. The Dhaka metropolitan police have not given any reason why they did not allow the opposition to hold a meeting. We are passing through a rough time, especially after the January 05 one-sided election. The investors are reluctant to invest as an uncertainty is looming large over our head. The ruling party should realise that their stubborn attitude will not bring anything good for them rather they will get more isolated from the common people.  I hope the government will allow enough space to their opposition so that they can carry on their peaceful political programme without any hindrance. Creating hindrance in the opposition's peaceful political programme will only push them towards destructive programme like hartals which are not desired to anyone.
