ALPB meets today to pick presidential candidate

Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) is due to meet today (Wednesday) to nominate party's presidential candidate as the tenure of President M Abdul Hamid expires on April 23, reports BSS.
Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting at her Ganabhaban official residence in the evening, a party press release said on Tuesday.
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, urged all concerned to join the meeting in time, the release added.
The presidential election should be held between 90 and 60 days before the five-year term of the President expires, according to Article 123 of the constitution. This means the next election will have to take place between January 24 and February 23.
The current session of parliament that began January 7 and is scheduled to run until February 28 will elect the President.
However, no voting will be needed if there is only one candidate.
