Alpha Agro provides breeder potato seeds to farmers

NILPHAMARI, Mar 9: Alpha Agro Ltd, a leading agro entrepreneur of the country, produce breeder potato seeds by applying tissue culture technology in the district.

Farmers of northern region including Nilphamari district are using non-seed potatoes in their fields due to lack of quality seeds. Non-seed potatoes used as seeds, which do not yield much and are very vulnerable to viruses and diseases.

Sources said Alpha Agro cultivated 100 hectares of land to produce 2800 tonnes of breeder potato seeds this year, which are totally virus-free as they applied Garman technology Elisa Kits in this connection.

Sources at Alpha Agro said they planted tissue-cultured plantlets using latest technology, which would eliminate such viruses like PVX, PVY and PVLR etc and increase potato production manifold in the region.
