ALPP picks Shirin Sharmin as Speaker

Ending all the speculations, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is going to become Speaker of the 10th Parliament again, reports UNB.
Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) nominated Shirin Sharmin, who was elected Member of Parliament from Rangpur-6 constituency unopposed, for the post at a meeting of the ruling party at the Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.
Ruling party Chief Whip ASM Feroz briefed reporters after the meeting.
Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury became the country's first female Speaker on April 30, 2013 after the then Speaker Abdul Hamid had become Bangladesh's 20th President on April 30 the same year following the death of the country's 19th President Zillur Rahman. President Zillur passed away on March 20, 2013.
Besides, the ALPP selected Jatiya Party lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi for the post of Deputy Speaker and Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as the Deputy Leader of the House.
