AL's defeat in Rangpur city won't affect next JS polls, says Muhith

The Awami League's defeat in Rangpur City Corporation mayoral election will not have any effect on the next parliamentary polls, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said, reports bdnews24.com.
"City corporation election is a local government election. It has nothing to do with the national parliament elections. It won't have any effect on the next parliamentary polls," he said in reply to reporters' queries after inaugurating the Insurance Fair in Sylhet on Friday.
He also said the Rangpur city polls have proved that the election system in Bangladesh is neutral.
"As there are many political parties in Bangladesh, it is natural for them to win in parts of the country. This election has proved the neutrality of the country's election system," he said.
Muhith, who had worked as the finance minister of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad's Cabinet, admitted that the party had a strong position in Rangpur.
