Aman harvest begins in Joypurhat

Our Correspondent JOYPURHAT, Nov 1: Aman harvesting has started at five upazilas in Joypurhat district. The DAE office and District administration arranged a paddy harvesting ceremony Friday at Burail paddy field under Khetlal upazila.
Abu Syeed Al Mahamud Shapan, organizing secretary of Awami League Central Committee inaugurated the paddy harvesting and spoke as a chief guest in the programme. Ashok Kumar Biswas, deputy commissioner of Joypurhat, presided over the function while police super Mozammel Haque, Delower Hossain and deputy director of Joypurhat District Agriculture Extension Office, were present as special guests. Local political leaders, administrative officers, farmers and others were present at the function.
Joypurhat Agriculture Extension Department sources said, this year Aman paddy has been cultivated on 73 thousands and 183 hectares of land where the target was 69 thousand and 330 hectares of land and production target of rice was 1 lakh 87 thousand and 18 tonnes. The production target of rice and paddy will exceed, said the sources.
New Aman rice appears in Rangpur
Another report from BSS adds: Harvest of anti-monga short duration paddies has been nearing completion now bringing down rice price by Taka 4 to 6 per kg with appearance of newly produced Aman one in the local markets, officials and market sources said.
"The farmers have cultivated short duration paddies in 1,23,334 hectares land and so far harvested in 91,068 hectares in Rangpur division by Monday to complete the process by November 7 next," Horticulturist Mezbahul Islam Khandker of the DAE said.
Officials in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said the farmers have cultivated T-Aman crop in 10, 84,162 hectares land against the fixed target of bringing 10,23,822 hectares to produce 27,01,901 tonnes rice in the division this season.
Head of Agriculture and Environment of RDRS Bangladesh Dr MG Neogi said short duration paddy farming has become popular to drive away monga in recent years and increase the country's rice production amid climate change impacts.
BGB-3 raising day observed
Our Correspondent reports: The raising day of 3BGB Joypurhat camp was celebrated with various programmes at the Battalion Hedquarter Tuesday.
The BGB-3 office sources said that on the day they celebrated their 63 years of raising. In the programme the Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Mehedi Hasan raised National and BGB flags.
The office also said that Dinajpur sector commander colonel Kazi Sawkat Alam PSC was present as chief guest. Ashoke Kumar Biswas Deputy Commissioner, Mozammel Haque police Super of Joypurhat, Captain Izaz Ahamed commander of RAB-5 Joypurhat Camp were present as special guests.
