Aman production in northern districts increased 50 per cent than the previous year as the farmers got quality seeds and the weather was favourable.
This correspondent visited Rajshahi, Natore and Sirajganj found that there were bumper production everywhere.
BR-11 and BR-32--these two kinds of seeds were used for Aman production and the output has increased up to 20 mounds per bigha.
Wazed Ali, a farmer of Tarash upazila under Sirajganj district told FE that he was very happy for good harvest.
Per bigha expenditure was not less than Tk 25000. Farmers purchased per kilogram of seed at Tk 120.
But the farmers claimed that high price of fertiliser in every season is one of the major problems and if the problem is resolved then more output is possible.
Last year Aman production marked rise by 10 to 12 mounds per bigha as quality seeds, fertiliser and pesticides were not available in time.
Rahim, another farmer of Sirajganj told that if proper supply of water and fertiliser are ensured and weather is favourable then Aman production can be increased further.
The farmers sell per mound dry Aman for Tk 900 where wet Aman is being sold at Tk 850.
Proper water supply played important role for better Aman harvest this year.
Tajuddin, a water supplier said 14 bigha land under his pumps were brought under Aman cultivation. The production was higher than farmers' expectations.
