Aman paddy ripening in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 20 (BSS): The vast tracts of T-Aman paddy field have taken a new look in all the seven Upazilas of the district by this time as the crop has started to ripe.
Official sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) took a programme to cultivate 1, 22, 950 hectares of land in the district this year with a production target of 2,86,665 metric tonnes of rice.
In the mid season, the cultivation of T-Aman paddy was hampered due to drought like situation but later the target fixed by the department was fully achieved after heavy rainfall.
Of the total, some 17,500 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,500 in Sadullapur Upazila, 13,500 in Palashbari Upazila, 31,500 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 23,850 in Sundarganj Upazila, 13,650 in Saghata Upazila and 8450 in Fulchhari Upazila, the sources said.
The farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of T Aman paddy during this current season.
Crops production specialist of DAE Satya Brata Paul said favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed of BADC and BMDA and timely supply of fertilisers and other agri-inputs to the growers are the reasons behind the expectation of bumper production.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success and to bring all arable land under this programme, the commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank also disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal farmers during the season.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE M. Qurban Ali said the harvest of T-Aman paddy would start at the end of this month in some of places of the district.
The harvest of short duration paddy likes BINA-7, BRRI Dhan- 33, 39, and BU-1 has already been completed in the district with a desired production of the varieties, he also said.
