Aman procurement begins Thursday
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 21 November 2023
The government will start rice procurement for this Aman season on Thursday, with a target to buy 0.7 million tonnes of the food- grain from millers and farmers across the country.
The Directorate General of Food has set a target to buy 0.2 million tonnes of paddy, 0.4 million tonnes of parboiled rice and 0.1 million tonnes of white rice.
This procurement drive will continue until February 28 next year, according to the food directorate.
Earlier at a meeting last month, the food ministry fixed the purchase price of Aman paddy at Tk 30 per kg, parboiled rice at Tk 44 per kg and white rice at Tk 43 per kg.
Meanwhile on November 19, the food ministry approved the division-wise collection targets.
As such, the parboiled rice mill owners will have to supply rice during a period from November 23 to December 5.
The price of rice supplied to the warehouses by the contracted parboiled rice mill owners will be paid through their own bank accounts, said officials.
Contracted husking has been asked to sort rice and supply it to the warehouses.
