NILPHAMARI, Jan 12: Aman procurement target in the district is unlikely to be achieved this year as price of paddy and rice is above the rate fixed by the government.
Government procurement rate has been fixed at Tk 14 per kg of paddy and Tk 22 per kg of rice. But at present market price of paddy is Tk 15 and rice Tk 25.
According to District Controller of Food office, procurement of rice and paddy began on December 7 last but so far they could contact with only seven husky mills in the district of an amount of 69 tonnes of rice.
There are 446 husky mills in the district and almost all of them are very reluctant to contact with the government to supply rice as the prevailing market price of rice do not match.
