Aman production may exceed target

JOYPURHAT, Oct 23: Joypurhat farmers and DAE are expecting good Aman harvest in the running T-Aman season, although cultivation had been late, due to lack of rain water.
Joypurhat Agriculture Extension Department said, this year Aman cultivation target was 72,120 hectares of land and production target of rice at 1,83,080 metric tons. The cultivation on targeted land has been exceeded and the paddy plant condition is very good in this year.
This year rain was so little than the previous years but at the fag end of cultivation, water supply was adequate.
Zakir Hossain, a farmer of Kalai Upazila said that this year he expects to harvest bumper Aman paddy. He has cultivated on 2 acres of land and is expecting 50 mounds of paddy per acre.
