Amar Desh acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman has been remanded in police custody for eight days, reports bdnews24.com.
A Dhaka court gave the order Tuesday when the police appealed for a 10-day remand in two cases against the former energy adviser to ex-prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Dhaka Metropolitian Magistrate Ismail Hossain granted four days of remand in two charges, one for sedition and another for publishing posters and publicity material of banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir.
Mahmudur was arrested in the early hours of June 2 in a fraud case filed by Amar Desh publisher Hashmat Ali Hashu.
Amar Desh's declaration has been cancelled and the paper has not been published since.
Perceived to be a BNP leaning newspaper, Amar Desh's declaration has been cancelled and the paper has not been published since June 1. The newspaper first came out in September 2004 published by Hashmat.
Hashmat Ali is the brother of Mosaddek Ali Falu, a close aide of former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Mahmudur took over the helm of the newspaper in 2008.
