After getting prestigious recognition as the International Mother Language Day from the UNESCO and the United Nations, the Amar Ekushey (February 21st) has now got recognition in the USA, reports BSS.
New York State Governor Andrew M Cuomo has recently declared the recognition formally, according to a message of the Muktodhara Foundation received in Dhaka from New York Saturday.
Muktadhara Foundation president Bishwajit Saha submitted a proposal to New York State Senator Peralta last year for giving recognition to Amar Ekushey in the USA.
The proposal was passed (Regulation no 469) at the New York State Senate Albany on February 10 and the resolution was included in the gazette Friday.
The recognition certificate of Amar Ekushey will be handed over formally to the Muktodhara Foundation during the International Mother Language Day function at 5.00 pm on February 20 in front of the UN headquarters in New York. On this occasion a two-week book fair will be organised at Jackson Heights in New York from February 18 to March 1.
International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in November 1999.
On 16 May 2007, the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution called upon member states "to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world".
