Amartya termed BD rising economic power: Amu

Friday, 4 April 2014

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen and other economists have identified Bangladesh as a rising economic power in South-and South East Asia. The Minister said Bangladesh has become a ‘role model’ for other nations today due to its steady economic growth amid the existing global economic crisis. “The developed countries are facing crisis due to global economic meltdown but Bangladesh continues the improved trend of its economic growth,” Amu said while addressing the inaugural session of a five-day SME fair in the city on Friday. Earlier, the Industries Minister formally inaugurated the fair, organised by the SME Foundation. A number of SMEs from agriculture, agro-processing products, clothing, home textile, handicraft, leather, light engineering, foods, beverage, electrical and electronics, herbal and furniture sectors from across the country are participating in the fair. The fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 8 pm, according to UNB.
