Amazing Tigers!
Sunday, 26 April 2015
It was too good for me to be true as the Tigers clean swept the ODI series and then the only T20 match against Pakistan. But it is a reality that the Tigers outplayed Pakistan and achieved their first series victory against them. Prior to this, the Tigers had a dismal record against Pakistan. They had won only once against Pakistan and it was way back in 1999. Many youngsters of today had not seen that exhilarating victory. Bangladesh not only won against their illustrated opponents but also white washed them to the utter surprise and embarrassment of the visiting team. It was for them like a bolt from the blue. Surely the young Pakistan team has been passing through a transitional period, but the Tigers won the series in such a convincing manner that their victory can not be undermined on any count.
The quality of cricket displayed by the Tigers can easily be ranked at par with the best in the game. Bangladesh had previously whitewashed New Zealand who were unfamiliar with our pitches. But it is a different story against Pakistan for whom the conditions here are similar to those back home. The resurgence of Tamim Iqbal with two back-to-back centuries was a treat to watch. Soumya Sarkar made a blistering innings of 127 not out which was full of elegant stroke play. The Tigers have indeed made all of us proud. We hope that they will display the same brilliance in the upcoming tests as well.
