AmCham head for resisting hartal

Friday, 21 May 2010

President of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) Aftab-ul-Islam Thursday urged the businesses, chambers and trade-bodies for taking a united move against hartal, reports BSS.
"Hartal damages the image of a country besides causing huge loss to the economy," Aftab-ul-Islam said.
He referred to the recent strike and street movement in Thailand, and said the unrest dented the image of the country.
Hinting at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Islam said the business community should be united against the people who want to reinstate the 'hartal culture'.
The AmCham president said the hartal was called when the government is carrying out various programmes to implement the election manifesto for the development of the country.
Islam firmly believes that the present government is moving towards right direction, and there is no valid reason for calling a hartal.
He said the Awami League government got two-third majority, and it is expected that they should be allowed enough time to fulfil the development agenda before bringing any allegation of failure.
