Amended vested property return ordinance gets advisers' nod

The Advisory Council of the caretaker government Sunday approved the Vested Property Return (Amendment) Ordinance 2008 to remove some anomalies and mismanagement from land management, besides making some other major decisions, reports UNB.
It finally approved the Local Government (Union Parishad) Ordinance 2008 aimed at strengthening the democratic process at the grassroots level and spontaneous participation of people in the local development process for ensuring good governance in the local tier of government.
In its meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, the council of advisers approved a proposal for signing MoU (memorandum of understanding) between Bangladesh and Australia on cooperation in combat against international terrorism.
The meeting gave approval to another major law, the Public Finance and Budget Management Ordinance 2008, for "maintenance of public finance, steady macroeconomic development, ensuring transparency and equality in allocation of finance and transparency and accountability in formulating budget".
The other salient features of the Public Finance Ordinance include ensuing regional equality, at least 5.0 per cent or 6.5 per cent allocation of money of total GDP for poverty-alleviation activities, ensuring gender equality, regular publishing of information of allocation of finance and their uses by all ministries and departments on website.
The meeting also approved National Broadband Policy for expanding internet broadband in the country by setting short, mid and long-term targets.
It also approved a proposal for forming Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDBL), a public limited company, through the merger of Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (BSB) and Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha (BSRS).
The meeting approved yet another proposal for forming North East Zone Power Distribution Company Limited under Bangladesh Power Development Board to improve power distribution in the greater Mymensingh and Sylhet districts.
The meeting discussed the Private Satellite Television Policy 2008 and sent back for further review.
