FE Report
Leaders of Domestic and International Courier Services Association Monday urged the government to amend 'Courier Services Act-2010 and Law-2011' immediately for carrying on their services smoothly.
They said the sector has been turned into an industry in the country employing millions of semi-skilled and skilled people but this would be paralysed if the law is implemented.
They made this comment at a news conference held in the city.
Presidents of Bangladesh Courier Services Association and International Air Express Association of Bangladesh, Hafizur Rahman Pulok and Desmond Quiah respectively read out the written statements.
The country's private courier services have been playing an important role for 28 years in employment generation through which economic development is increasing, the leaders said.
If the government wants the courier services to expand, more unemployed people would get jobs but if this law is implemented, thousands of people would be unemployed, they said.
They also said increased security money, licence fees, renewal fees under the recent act and law must be withdrawn because no courier services in the world could bear such additional costs.
General secretary of Bangladesh Courier Services Association, Abdur Razzaque Raju and Mufti M Jalil, among others spoke at the news conference.
