Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Tuesday stressed improving services at district-level industrial parks under the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC). At a meeting with BSCIC officials at the Industries Ministry, Amu said the service charges at BSCIC industrial parks could be increased to ensure improved services to entrepreneurs, according to a news agency. Amu also directed the officials concerned to take effective steps to ensure fair prices for salt farmers. “Pragmatic steps must be taken to protect the salt farmers from the clutches of middlemen,” he said. Officials present at the meeting apprised the minister that salt production in the country is likely to exceed the target of 16 lakh tonnes in the current fiscal. So far, 1.05 lakh tones of salt have been produced in this fiscal, they added.
