AN EPITOME OF NEGLECT:

Monday, 22 April 2024

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) promised to restore the Kalshi canal to its old self by evicting the encrochers three to four years ago. But it has reneged on its promise. In the event of a moderate downpour, a large area around the canal remains waterlogged for hours together. The DNCC even does not feel the necessity of cleaning the main canal and the bypass drain built in 2019. The pictures above show (clockwise): (1) Mouth of the bypass drain clogged with garbage; (2) The clogged main channel; (3) part of encroached channel; (4) waterlogged Kalshi Road; and (5) vehicles stranded on the Kalshi flyover, built at a cost of over Tk 10 billion, when the road westward gets waterlogged — FE Photos by Asad-Uz-Zaman
