Anglo American says strikes hit platinum output

Friday, 18 July 2014

LONDON, July 17 (AFP): Global miner Anglo American said on Thursday that platinum production slumped 40 per cent in the second quarter, hit by South African strikes which ended last month.
Anglo American, which is the world's biggest producer of platinum, said in a statement that it produced 358,000 ounces of refined platinum products in the three months to June 30, compared with the same period a year earlier.
"Platinum equivalent refined production decreased by 40 per cent to 358,000 ounces as a result of the industrial action at Rustenburg, Amandelbult and Union mines in South Africa," Anglo said in the update.
