Monday, 12 July 2010

BRAHMANBARIA, July 11 (bdnews24.com): Another accused died in the police custody at Nabinagar Sunday, only six days after the High Court (HC) asked the government to constitute a committee to investigate custodial deaths.
The victim was identified as Nurul Haque (45), a rickshaw-puller and a resident of village Bidyakut in the upazila.
Nabinagar thana officer-in-charge Rupok Saha said, "Nurul Haque was wanted in two cases filed with Nabinagar police -one a gambling case and the other a case of riot."
"Police of Shibpur camp under Nabinagar police station arrested him from his village home in the early hours of Sunday," he added.
Since his arrest, Nurul Haque had been having breathing complications. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex around 4.00am, the police officer said.
"However, Haque's condition worsened further and he was forwarded to Brahman-baria Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival," Saha added.
