Friday, 17 October 2014

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel on Friday recovered another large cache of ammunition, including anti-tank artillery shells, in the bush of Satchhari in Habiganj district. RAB-9 commander Wing Commander Riad Hasan Rabbani said they resumed the operation on Friday and found two bunkers on a hill deep inside the reserve forest. ‘We’ve recovered a total of 9,454 rounds of machinegun bullets, including 2 anti-tank shells, 80 magazines, 5 walkie-talkies and a radio,’ he said. On Thursday, 3 machineguns, 4 machinegun barrels, 8 magazines and a high-powered radio were unearthed from there. On June 3, a big weapons cache stored in bunkers dug deep in hillocks inside the forest, were found barely 3 kilometres from the border with India’s Tripura state. RAB raided the jungle again on Sept 2 and reported recovery of small weapons and ammunition in a container buried underground. On Sept 17, RAB searched the area for a 3rd time. They reportedly found 15 sacks of ammunition and explosives, including 112 rockets and 48 rocket chargers, buried in a bunker, according to a news agency.
