Another Bangladeshi gunned down in S Africa

A Bangladesh national was shot to death by miscreants near Johannesburg for declining to pay extortion on Wednesday, a few hours after an expatriate Bangladeshi businessman had been gunned down by assailants for the same reason in the outskirts of South Africa’s largest metropolitan city. However, identity of the Bangladeshi, shot dead by extortionists on Wednesday near his shop in a commercially important place between Soweto and Johannesburg, could not be known. The other victim, killed by extortionists early Wednesday, was identified as Alauddin Jewel, 30. Both, Jewel and the unidentified Bangladeshi man killed in one of the black townships in Soweto in the morning, were murdered for nonpayment of ellegal toll money demanded by the criminals. Md Kamal, a friend of Jewel who lives in Johannesburg area, informed Jewel’s father Khwaja Mainuddin over mobile phone the news of the deaths of the two Bangladeshi businessmen on Wednesday afternoon. He said some miscreants entered the shop of Jewel breaking the window. The miscreants demanded money from Jewel which he refused. Angered by refusal, a gangster drew a firearms and shot at Jewel, leaving him dead on the spot. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital for completion of necessary formalities. Mainuddin said Jewel’s body will be brought back home. His body is expected arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday, Mainuddin added, according to a news agency.
