Another Tejgaon fire victim dies

Twelve-year-old 'Motaleb', who had suffered burns in a fire that gutted a hardware store in Dhaka's Tejgaon on Thursday, has died. His death takes the toll in the blaze to four, including two others who had succumbed to their injuries earlier on Friday. Motaleb died around 11:15pm at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said resident doctor Partha Shankar Pal. He was a staff at the store gutted on Thursday afternoon by the fire that had left 11 people with significant burns. One of them, Abdul Latif, 70, died on the early hours of Friday. Doctors said Motaleb had suffered 90 per cent damage. Earlier in the day, Pal had said that two of the victims, Khalilur Rahman, 36, and Shafiul Azam, 45, with over 80 per cent burns, had died around 1pm and 1:30pm respectively. They were employees of the store - Mahfuz Sewing and Electronics, situated in a 3-storey building narrow on a narrow alley at Tejturi Bazar near Farm Gate. Seven other victims, including two private university students, are still undergoing treatment. They are Mahmudul Hasan, 37, Zahirul Islam, 60, Md Masud, 25, ‘Zakir’, 25, and ‘Uzzal’, 25, Shammi Akhter, 19, and Iffat Ara Yasmin, 19. The fire occurred at the hardware store beside Tejgaon Women’s College around 3pm on Thursday. Shammi and Yasmin had suffered burns on their legs, according to bdnews24.com.
