Another triumph in the month of victory
Saturday, 20 December 2014
In the month of December over 43 years ago Bangladesh’s valiant freedom fighters defeated Pakistan and liberated the country from the occupation forces. After 43 years in this month the country achieved another victory over Pakistan. Bangladesh Bank has said that the country’s foreign exchange reserves have surpassed those of Pakistan by more than 1-and-half times in what is seen as another victory in December. The central bank confirmed that Bangladesh’s forex reserves stood at $ 22.4 billion on Thursday, thanks to buoyant remittance inflow and rising export income. Pakistan, on the other hand, has $13.82b in forex reserves at that time. ‘Our reserves have reached the highest in 43 years,’ an elated BB Governor Atiur Rahman announced. ‘It is another triumph in the month of victory,’ he was quoted by some media as saying. He acknowledged that remittance and export income played major role in raising the country’s forex reserve. Bangladesh has enough reserves to pay import bills for 7 months, said the central bank's Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Division's chief Kazi Saidur Rahman, according to a news agency.
