Ansar emerge champs

Bangladesh Ansar clinched top slot in the Keya Cosmetics 23rd National Age Group Swimming Competition that concluded Saturday at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur in the city, featuring six new national records, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Ansar grabbed 46 gold, 28 silver and 26 bronze medals to lift the top place, BKSP finished distant second securing 27 gold, 40 silver and 17 bronze medals while Alamgir Swimming Club of Rajshahi placed third with 25 gold, 9 silver and 16 bronze medals.
President of Bangladesh Swimming Federation and Navy Chief Vice Admiral Sarwar Jamal Nizam was the chief guest in the day's closing function of the three-day meet and distributed the prizes.
Director of the meet's sponsor Keya Cosmetics Limited Akkas Ali Pathan was present at the function as special guest.
Babita Khatun of Bangladesh Ansar, who bagged 11 gold medals, and Mohammad Al Amin of BKSP, who won nine gold medals, were adjudged the best swimmers in the girls and boys' groups to receive a cash award of Tk 50,000 each from the meet's sponsor Keya Cosmetics Ltd.
Besides, Keya Cosmetics also awarded Tk 10,000 each to all the national record holders in addition to a special award of Tk 10,000 given to the Alamgir Swimming Club of Rajshahi.
Of the six national records, two new national marks were made on the closing day, both in the girls' 10-year age groups. Nazma Khatun alone made four national records out of the six.
Nazma of Bangladesh Ansar created the day's both records in the 50-metre butterfly clocking 39.51 seconds to better the previous marks of 41.47 seconds while in the 100-metre freestyle with a timing of 1:24.06 minutes improving the old marks of 1:24.79 minutes.
A total of 100 events were decided on the three-day national age group meet.
