Ansar VDP Bank limping with manpower shortage

FE Report | Sunday, 7 December 2014

Ansar VDP Unnayan Bank, a specialised bank, is limping with an acute manpower shortage, sources said.
"The specialised development bank is facing problems in performing day to day official work mainly due to shortage of manpower," a high official of the bank told the FE Saturday.
Activities of its branches across the country are being hampered for this, he added.
Some 584 approved posts of the bank have long been lying vacant, according to the bank data.
The bank needs 1,360 staff members to operate efficiently. Some 776 staff members are now working, the data showed.
The bank authorities said necessary measures are being taken to fill up the required manpower.
The process of appointment to fill the vacant posts of the bank is going on smoothly and will be completed soon, according to officials.
The bank authorities expect to maintain normal operation after getting necessary manpower in the future, the officials said.
More than 0.29 million members received loans from the bank until October, 2014. The authorized capital of the bank is Tk 1.0 billion.
Presently, there are 119 and 14 branches and regional branches of the bank across the country respectively. Its outstanding loan is Tk 2.92 billion until October last.
The bank had started operation in late 1996 aiming at poverty alleviation of nearly 5.6 million Ansar and VDP members by engaging them in income generating activities through credit support. It also aimed at raising their living standard by making them self-reliant.
