FE Report Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Ansar-VDP Sunday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in a bid to meet up the growing demand of skilled manpower for the garments sector. As per the new contract, Ansar-VDP will provide necessary training to the unskilled people to make them skilled for the garment sector in their academy and BGMEA will provide logistic support including supplying sewing machine in the training. Siddiqur Rahman, Faruque Hassan and S M Mannan (Kochi) were also present at the programme chaired by Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin. Munnujan Sufian emphasised the need for making the large population of the country skilled manpower so that they could be an asset for the country. "We have a large population but we need to make them skilled. I hope this MoU between BGMEA and Ansar-VDP will contribute much to developing the skill of our manpower in the country," she said. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said despite the large population of the country the garment industries have run short of skilled manpower that compel them to spend big-amounts for getting labour from foreign countries. "We have 20 to 25 per cent shortage of labourers compared to our capacity. So, we need quality people. I hope this MoU with Ansar-DVP will help us get more skilled manpower," he said. Major General Md. Zahidur Rahman said they believe the present government's dream to make at least one employment from every family of this country could be materialised through this kind of training programme.
