Anti-corruption Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Dec 10: International Anti-Corruption Day-2011 was observed in Khulna as elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner on Friday. Elaborate programmes were chalked out in observance of the day. The programme included a colourful rally on anti-corruption movement, discussion meeting and a cultural event to create awareness among people about the effects of corruption.
In observance of the day a discussion meeting was held at Shahid Hadis Park, arranged by Khulna District Anti-Corruption Resistance Committee. Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as the meeting chief guest.
The meeting was also addressed among others by lawmaker Khulna-2 Nazrul Islam Monju, Divisional Commissioner Moshiur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Jamsher Ahmed Khondoker and the Editor of Daily Purbanchal Al-Haz Liaquat Ali.
The function was presided over by the president of the District Anti-Corruption Resistance Committee Shaikh Abdul Mannan.
Speakers at the discussion meeting said, Time has come to change our mindsets against corruption. They laid importance on creation of awareness among mass people at grass root level to eliminate corruption from the country.
Two bikers killed
Two motorcyclists were killed at Rupsha Talimpur area on Rupsha-Mongla Road on Friday while a speedy bus and a motorcycle collided head, on.
Police and local source said that BNP leader Akbar Ali Shaikh (40), son of Mokbul Shaikh of Rahimnagor under Rupsha thana and Jubo League Leader Ashraful Islam (30), son of Shorab Hossain of the same area were going to nearby village Chulkathi by a motorcycle for distributing invitation cards of a marriage ceremony. When they reached Talimpur area on Rupsha-Mogla road it collided head on with a speeding bus coming from opposite direction and both on the motorcycle died on the spot.
Nine arrested along border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals from Bashantopur border area under Debhata thana of Satkhira district on Friday.
BGB source said that on a secret information BGB members raided Bashantopur border led by Habilder Mostofa Sarker of Debhata BGB Camp and arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals while they were entering into Bangladesh by boat from India.
