Anti-formalin drive to continue

Sunday, 29 June 2014

Dhaka police have unveiled plans to continue anti-formalin drive even during Ramadan. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed has said they have taken a decision to set up permanent booths at Dhaka’s vegetable markets to continue their drive. ‘We want to give the anti-adulteration drive a permanent form,’ Benazir Ahmed told the reporters at a media conference in the city. Police have set up several check posts at the city’s entrance to test goods for formalin. But businessmen have been alleging that tests run to determine formalin presence in fruits and vegetables are sub-standard. ‘We are considering setting up permanent booths at 236 vegetable markets in the capital,’ Benazir Ahmed said hoping to implement the plan soon. Students of public and private universities can earn some extra cash by working in these booths, he said, according to a news agency.
