Four killed in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO, Sept 24 (AFP): Clashes between Sri Lankan troops and Tamil Tiger rebels left four dead and five injured Monday along the northern defence lines, the defence ministry said. Security forces killed three suspected Tamil fighters during retaliatory strikes in Kilali on the Jaffna peninsula, the ministry said. One soldier also died and five were wounded.
Explosion kills two, injures 11 in Kosovo
BELGRADE, Sept 24 (XINHUA): A powerful explosion killed two and injured at least 11 others in Kosovo's capital Pristina in the early hours Monday. The explosion happened in downtown Pristina's Bill Clinton Boulevard, causing partial collapse of a building there, the police said. Most of the victims were injured from the building collapse, police spokesman Veton Elshani said, adding that all of the 11 injured were sent to a local hospital. The cause of the blast is still unknown, Elshani said.
Angola president clinches deal in Cuba trip
HAVANA, Sept 24 (AFP): Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos Sunday wrapped up a four-day trip to Cuba after meeting ailing Fidel Castro and sealing a bilateral cooperation agreement with Havana, state television reported. Cuba's interim President Raul Castro, who invited the Angoloan leader to visit the country after taking the reins of government last year from his brother Fidel, said the visit was marked by extensive "dialogue and intense activity."
Four Somali soldiers killed in heavy clashes
MOGADISHU, Sept 24 (AFP): Four Somali soldiers, including a top commander were killed in heavy fighting in northern Mogadishu, witnesses said Monday. The four died in battles with insurgents that erupted late Sunday. Residents said it was some of the worst fighting the city has seen in several weeks. "We have lost three government soldiers including Nur Warsame Hirey, the commander of the unit that was attacked last night near Barakat Cemetery," a military commander told AFP on condition of anonymity. The body of a fourth soldier was found near the scene of fighting early Monday, said witness Husein Mohamed Osman.
