Anwaruddin elected CAPA Director

Anwaruddin Chowdhury, Representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), has been elected as a Director of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) Board for a four year term 2011-15, at the CAPA Assembly of Delegates (AOD) meeting held recently in Brisbane, Australia. The election was held after the 18th CAPA Conference hosted by the two accountancy bodies in Australia on the theme APAC Powerhouse, said a statement. Opportunities for the Accounting Profession. This is the second time that an ICAB nominee has been elected to the CAPA Board. Anwaruddin is a Financial Management Specialist, with varied experience in the corporate, financial services and development sectors, and in the fields of professional training and academia. Through his expertised professional leadership, Anwaruddin is well placed to induce substantial "synergy" in the functioning of CAPA Board. Anwaruddin is a Member Council and Past President (2001) of ICAB. He served as a Technical Advisor to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Board for 2 years (2000-01) and was Executive Secretary of South Asian Federation of accountants (SAFA) in 1995. A strong proponent for "global harmonization of financial reporting and audit practices" and for "standardization of the regional accountancy profession", he represents the ICAB on SAFA Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability and Governance. Anwaruddin is the founder Managing Director and currently serves in an advisory capacity to the Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh (CRAB) Ltd. He is a founder Partner of ACNABIN, Chartered Accountants firm and is presently a Director of Amtras Trainers Ltd. Anwaruddin has authored and presented many technical Papers in various national and international conferences and seminars on a variety of contemporary, economic topics and professional issues. A dedicated academic, Anwaruddin has been serving as a Faculty for over two decades and conducted a number of training programmes in various professional bodies, financial institutions and regulatory agencies. Anwaruddin has been serving the ICAB Council since 1995. He is presently Chairman of RCPAR and Member of several Council Committees of ICAB. He drafted the CPE Document and was instrumental in introduction of mandatory CPD for ICAB members. He had pioneered the introduction of Best Published Accounts and Reports Awards in Bangladesh in 2001, which has since become a prestigious annual event. He was actively involved in devising the SAFA WTO Strategy for Professional Services in late 90s. He has participated in several UNCTAD ISAR Inter-governmental Experts Meetings in Geneva and served on ISAR Task Forces. He was Chairman of ISAR Workshop on Corporate Governance - Accountability and Transparency in 2001. CAPA is the largest regional accountancy group, having 31 members in 24 countries. CAPA aims at providing leadership in development, enhancement and coordination of the accountancy profession in the Asia-Pacific region to enable the profession to provide services of consistently high quality in the public interest. CAPA fosters a strong and cohesive profession by providing leadership on emerging issues, coordinating with IFAC, other regional and intra-regional organisations, member bodies and associates to achieve appropriate strategic objectives and promote sustainable institutions.
